Third Annual FIDV 5K Run
On Sunday April 29th, Friends of Israel Disabled Veterans held its 3rd annual 5 Towns 5K race/walk. The race was held in North Woodmere Park, New York and was organized by Dr. Isaac Seinuk a local resident of North Woodmere and an FIDV board member. This year’s race drew in a record breaking crowd of close to 700 people.

FIDV Welcomes Author Dr. Itzhak Brook
On May 1st, 2012 FIDV hosted at The Jewish Center on New York’s Upper West Side, Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Col. Bentzi Gruber’s talk, “Ethics in the Field: An Inside Look at the Israel Defense Forces.” Col. Gruber’s multimedia presentation included formerly classified IDF footage, statistics and personal narratives. Col. Gruber reviewed Operation Cast Lead and ongoing clandestine operations.

Zahal Disabled Veterans Organization flag on Mt. Everest!
Between March 23-April 8 Yuval Shalson of the UK had one of the most amazing experiences of her life trekking to the Everest Base Camp. She had decided to dedicate the trek as a fund raiser for Beit Halochem and was able to raise over £6,000.

The Zahal Disabled Veterans Organisation and Gilad Shalit (J-Wire )
More than 700 members of the Sydney Jewish community watched the film made by Tamar Pross as she chronicled four of the five tortuous years experienced by Aviva and Noam Shalit during which they fought a daily battle for the freedom of their son Gilad, held captive by Hamas for five years.

Courage in Motion 2011
The "Courage in Motion 2011", bike ride was launched on Sunday October 30 and is an initiative of the Friends of Beit Halochem in Canada. 60 North American riders rode alongside 55 Zahal Disabled Veterans across the country strengthening the bond between the veterans and their North American friends.

10 US War Veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan were guests of the ZDVO
On September 15 Beit Halochem Tel Aviv hosted a very special group of guests, 10 US War Veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan. They were the inaugural team visiting Israel as part of a project initiated by "Heroes to Heroes" a non-profit US Association whose aim is to provide a solid peer support system for American service-disabled veterans.

For the First Time Ever: Israeli Wheelchair Dancer Appears in Local German Musical Production
Israel wheelchair dancer Nahum (Humi) Prital and his standing dance partner Gal Cucuy have recently returned from a performance tour in Germany where they took part in a local musical production. The story behind the scenes is fascinating and typical of modern day communication where thanks to the internet and the social networks the world has indeed become a global village.

Sailing Towards London
Hagar Zehavi and Shimon Ben Yaacov were injured during their military service. Both are trying to achieve their dream to win an Olympic Medal in Sailing at the forthcoming 2012 London Games.
