Haim Anlen
Born January 5th 1948, in Tel Aviv. Finished his studies at the 'Balfour' elementary school and District High School # 6, in Tel Aviv. Haim joined the army on August 14th, 1966, where he served in the 'Golani' unit as a combat soldier and squad commander. During the Six Day War, Haim participated in battles in Nablus and the Golan Heights. On March 31st 1968, he was severely injured while fighting terrorists in the Golan Heights, and was left paralyzed 100% and confined to a wheelchair. When his rehabilitation process ended at 'Tel Hashomer' hospital, he moved to Ramat Hasharon.
Haim went to Tel Aviv University, where he majored in Middle Eastern studies and Arabic. In October of 1975, he went back into the army and served in the intelligence corps, at first as an employee and then as an officer. During his service he was trained as an intelligence officer and completed his service translating documents from Arabic to Hebrew. Haim also spent his time imparting Tzahal traditions and history and in 1991 he won the army's history quiz program. On March 31st 1992, he was honorably discharged as a lieutenant colonel, and retired.
In parallel to his studies and military service, Haim participated in athletic activities, and excelled especially in marksmanship competitions and 'Bow and Arrow' competitions. In 1967, he was part of the Israeli mission to the Paralympics in Toronto, Canada. He later represented Israel in several other international championships in England, Austria, and Belgium.
While a member of the Olympic team in Canada, he met Ora Goldstein from Kibbutz Hama'apil, an Olympic medalist and world record holder for swimming and track and field events, who had won 13 medals in three Paralympics. On March 15th 1977, the two wed and on September 28th 1984 their daughter, Efrat, was born. Today Efrat is a veterinary student in the Wingate institute.
One of Haim's hobbies is art, and especially painting. During his studies, as well as military service, he illustrated different publications, and even designed a crest for one of the units in the intelligence corps.
With the opening of the Tel Aviv 'Beit Halochem' center, Haim began participating in the art classes offered, especially in the painting, drawing, printing, and silver crafts classes. Haim participated in group exhibitions at 'Beit Halochem', at the 'Ort Baroda' gallery in Carmiel, at the 'Galerina' at Bat-Shlomo, and in traveling exhibitions of Tzahal Disabled artists in the United States and Canada. In 1996, he had a private exhibition in the 'Beit Halochem' center in Tel Aviv, and today (October 2005), he is presenting his second private exhibition.
