Supporting the disabled veterans during the process of rehabilitation is one of the highest priorities of Israeli society. The State of Israel, operating within the Ministry of Defense's budget, contributes to the coverage of medical care, compensation and housing. However, a complete physical, mental and social rehabilitation that is necessary for the success of this lengthy process is beyond their capabilities.
The set up of such a rehabilitation framework and its operation, was made possible by Zahal Disabled Veterans Fund, the Financial arm of Zahal Disabled Veterans Organization, whose responsibility has been to raise the necessary funds for the construction of the Beit Halochem centers:
Beit Halochem Tel-Aviv
Beit Halochem Haifa
Beit Halochem Jerusalem
As well as Beit Kay (recreation center) in Nahariya, for the various activities and for the acquisition of special equipment, as well as for other projects such as scholarships whose aim is to assist the disabled veterans in their academic studies, and to encourage those who specialize in the competitive-sports field.
Beit Halochem provides its members with medical treatments such as physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, and various sports activities including basketball, swimming, tennis, athletics and maritime sports as well as numerous cultural and social activities designed for Z.D.V.O members and their families.
Funds are also raised to operate exclusive activities intended for specific disabled groups such as the blind or the head-injured, or for special projects like "Halochem" - Zahal Disabled Park, where all substructure and facilities are specially adjusted for the disabled public.
Fund raising for Zahal Disabled Veterans Fund is carried out by Friends organizations, private donors, institutions and trusts worldwide, who have established a special relationship with the organization, amongst them are the exceptional people who have left their life's savings in their wills in favor of the Zahal Disabled Veterans Fund - all those deserve special thanks and deep appreciation.
